Hi there. I’m John
I’m a licensed therapist, writer, former educator and minister. I provide counseling in a rural town, through a community health center. Every day, I get the incredible privilege of helping people navigate their toughest times – from grief and loss, to trauma, depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, family conflict, broken relationships, and uncertainty about the future.
I have a Master of Education degree in Counseling and experience as a high school teacher. I also spent four years pastoring a small church. Over the last 17 years I’ve had many different roles. Through all of them, one thing has remained the same – I am wired to care about people and to do what I can to help them through their struggles.
I live in a small town with my wife of 17 years, our three children, and way too many animals. I play the bass guitar in my church worship band, enjoy hiking, fishing, and being outdoors, and am an avid reader and learner (and Netflix watcher). I love growth and development – both for myself and others. And this is what I want to help foster here.
I tend to drift toward more practical and solution-focused approaches to counseling. I’m a fan of Carl Jung and have an interest in the development of personality. I’ve also dug into and used concepts from William Glasser’s Reality Therapy, Choice Theory, Polyvagal theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and a number of others. I believe in being more focused on movement forward, rather than looking too much to the past.
